Resources for Future Parents

Healthy Families Program

If you or your partner are pregnant, you may find yourself with questions and concerns along with excitement about welcoming your baby. Anthem’s Future Families program provides support throughout the pregnancy and help you prepare for a healthy delivery. If you or your partner join, you’ll receive:

  • Digital tools and resources for pregnancy and beyond
  • Health and wellness expertise for you and your partner
  • 24/7 phone access to a nurse coach who can answer questions about your pregnancy.

Go online to Anthem, call our Anthem HealthPro team at 1-800-828-5891 to enroll in the Building Health Families program. You can also enroll using the Sydney Health mobile app (go to My Health Dashboard and choose the Building Healthy Families tile under Featured Programs).

Leave for New Parents

New mom receives 6 weeks (42 days) for vaginal delivery 8 weeks (56days) for C-section.

In addition to Short-Term Disability benefits offered to eligible employees, new parents are eligible for Paid Parental Leave to care for their newborn.

If you are the primary caregiver for your new family member, you can take up to 12 weeks of Paid Parental Leave. If you are the secondary caregiver, you can take up to 6 weeks of Paid Parental Leave (whether as a primary or secondary caregiver), please review the Paid Parental Leave Policy).

Request Parental Leave

You must apply for parental leave and inform your manager at least 30 calendar days prior to your need for leave.

You can apply for Parental Leave in the following ways:

Breast Feeding: Pumps and Counseling

Through your Anthem coverage, you or your covered partner can be reimbursed for a breast pump supplied by in- or out-of-network durable medical equipment (DME) providers, retail stores (such as Target) or purchased online (such as Amazon). You are able to obtain one pump per year.

  1. Purchase your breast pump from any retail or online provider.
  2. Submit your claim to Anthem for reimbursement using the Anthem Breast Pump and Supplies Claim Form. If you purchase the pump from an Anthem in-network DME supplier, they will file the claim on your behalf.

Lactation Counseling

Need help with lactation? You can receive lactation counseling at no cost when performed by a licensed lactation counselor or other provider, such as a registered nurse. Contact the HealthPro team at 1-866-251-1779.
