Trustee Nominees (Listed Alphabetically)

Two (2) open positions!

Daniel Higginbotham

Karrick Hutchinson

My name is Karrick Hutchinson and I am running for a second term as OCU Trustee. I am currently working as an Instrumentation Engineering Associate at CMIC.  I have been a dues paying member for 26 years and served our Union in many capacities. I first served on the Joint Apprenticeship Committee for a couple years after completing my apprenticeship in the Instrumentation trade.  I then joined the Policy committee as the technical hourly representative.  While on the Policy committee, I then served as Area Representative at FSP/GOB representing around 100 employees.  After serving as an Area representative for two years, I was voted in to fill the office of Vice President of the OCU.  During my tenure at the hall, we as the Board negotiated the contract for CMEP employees that paved the way for them joining the Base Business contract.

During my last three years serving as a Trustee, myself and the other Trustees have worked well together ensuring the duties of the office have been upheld.  I have personally attended all but one or two of the monthly meetings during my term as trustee only failing to attend due to being out of town or on leave. Either before or after the monthly membership meeting, I would observe the facility to ensure nothing needed immediate attention.  During the times between meetings, I would stay in regular contact with at least one of the board members to ensure no new issues had arose.  Over the last three years, we have completed a handful or projects to ensure the property is well maintained such as:

  • New lettering on the main entrance
  • Repair of roof trim after storm
  • New parking curbs
  • Filling in low spots in the field
  • New roof/trim
  • New Sign on West side of building

We have a few more things planned as fall approaches to ensure the Union Hall is in great shape.  I would appreciate your vote and look forward to serving the Union for another three years.

In solidarity,

Karrick Hutchinson

John Newby

Hello, my name is John Newby and I’m running for trustee.

A little about me. I’ve been married for 26 years to my wife Christina. We have three boys. Together we enjoy traveling and hiking with our dog Claire. We live in Letts, where each year we put up a big Christmas display, synchronized to music.

I started Cummins in ’94 as one of the first school to work students. Hired full-time in ’95, then entered the Instrumentation apprenticeship in ’96. Completed the apprenticeship in 2000 and shortly after I was asked to work with the apprentices and served on the JAC till ‘05. In ’05 I ran and was elected for an area rep position, which I held till 2010 when I bid out of my area and took a job in safety at CTC. While working in safety I ran for a trustee position and have been serving as a trustee since.

As a trustee I’ve personally completed many projects such as painting, cleaning, and repairing things, such as lighting fixtures and exit signs. I’ve also overseen larger projects like new carpet, and painting of the interior of the hall. I’ve also gathered quotes and helped select contractors for general maintenance like mowing and snow removal. Please reach out with any questions. I would appreciate your vote.
